Resolution # 6-2022

RESOLUTION NO. 6-2022

WHEREAS, the Montezuma County, Colorado, Board of County Commissioners. Based upon the competent evidence, finds that the danger of forest and grass fires is high throughout the unincorporated areas of Montezuma County and that to protect the public health, safety and welfare it is necessary to reduce the danger of wildfires within those areas;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners as follows:

  1. That Resolution No. 10-2021, suspending the ban on open fires and the use of
    fireworks, is canceled pursuant to Montezuma County ordinance No. 2-2015.
  2. That a ban on open fires and the use of fireworks is reinstated and continues in full force and effect pursuant to Ordinance No. 2-2015.

 

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that this resolution is hereby adopted and effective at 6:00 a.m.,, tomorrow, May 25, 2022

The National Weather Service in Grand Junction has issued a Fire Weather Watch for gusty winds, low relative humidity, and dry fuels, which is in effect from Saturday afternoon through Saturday evening (noon to 10:00 pm).

Fire Restrictions by Jurisdiction

  • Unincorporated Montezuma County: Fire ban in effect as of May 28, 6:00 am.
  • Unincorporated Dolores County: Stage 1 Restrictions- effective May 27 at 12:00 am
  • Town of DoloresBurn ban in effect as of May 28, 6:00 am. 
  • Town of Mancos: No open fires or fireworks.
  • City of Cortez: Open fires by permit only. Contact Planning & Building Department at (970) 564-4016.
  • Ute Mountain Ute Tribe: Stage 1 Restrictions- effective May 22.
  • Southern Ute Tribe: Stage 1 restrictions- effective May 22.
  • San Juan National Forest: Stage 1 Restrictions, forest-wide effective June 12.
  • BLM – Tres Rios Field Office: Stage 1 fire restrictions begin Friday, May 29th at 12:01 am for all public lands administered by the Bureau of Land Management
  • Mesa Verde National Park: Stage 1 Restrictions 

Please use caution when using anything that could cause a spark or fire, even when no restrictions are in effect. Fire danger is currently HIGH in Montezuma County.
