A RESOLUTION NOTIFYING THE COUNTY CLERK OF THE BOARD’S INTENT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2026 GENERAL ELECTION BY PLACING QUESTIONS ON THE BALLOT TO BE CONSIDERED BY THE VOTERS OF MONTEZUMA COUNTY TO ELIMINATE TERM LIMITS FOR THE COUNTY ASSESSOR, CLERK AND RECORDER, SURVEYOR, AND TREASURER, AND ALSO TO INCREASE THE MONTEZUMA COUNTY LODGING TAX FROM TWO PERCENT (2%) TO FIVE PERCENT (5%)

RESOLUTION NO. 7– 2026

A RESOLUTION NOTIFYING THE COUNTY CLERK OF THE BOARD’S INTENT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE 2026 GENERAL ELECTION BY PLACING QUESTIONS ON THE BALLOT TO BE CONSIDERED BY THE VOTERS OF MONTEZUMA COUNTY TO ELIMINATE TERM LIMITS FOR THE COUNTY ASSESSOR, CLERK AND RECORDER, SURVEYOR, AND TREASURER, AND ALSO TO INCREASE THE MONTEZUMA COUNTY LODGING TAX FROM TWO PERCENT (2%) TO FIVE PERCENT (5%)

WHEREAS, Section 1-17-116(5), C.R.S., requires a Board of County Commissioners to take formal action to notify the County Clerk of its intent to participate in an election at least one hundred (100) days prior to the election; and

WHEREAS, there is a General Election to be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2026; and

WHEREAS, the deadline to provide notice to the County Clerk is July 23, 2026; and

WHEREAS, the Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners believes it to be in the best interests of Montezuma County, and consistent with the health, safety, and welfare of its citizens, that the voters be provided a ballot measure asking whether term limits should be eliminated for the elected offices of:

  • County Assessor
  • County Clerk and Recorder
  • County Surveyor
  • County Treasurer

and

WHEREAS, the Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners believes it to be in the best interests of Montezuma County, and consistent with the health, safety, and welfare of its citizens, that voters be provided a ballot measure asking whether the Montezuma County lodging tax should be increased from its current rate of two percent (2%) to five percent (5%) to support the local tourism economy and promote tourism in Montezuma County.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that written notice is hereby given to the County Clerk of the Montezuma County Board of County Commissioners’ intent to participate in the 2026 General Election.

ADOPTED THIS 14th day of July, 2026, by the Board of County Commissioners of Montezuma County, Colorado.
