Why Engagement Matters

By taking an active role in learning about Child Support Services, you’ll likely have greater success receiving regular support payments—or, if you are the paying parent, success in making regular child support payments.

Changing Your Child Support Order

Child support orders can be reviewed for a potential change at any time. You may want to request a review because:

  • The child has emancipated and is no longer living with the person receiving payment
  • Your income, or the other parent’s, has changed
  • The costs of raising the child have changed (e.g., health care or day-care expenses)
  • The number of overnight visits the child has with the other parent has changed
  • It has been three years since your order was last reviewed

All child support review requests must be made in writing at the county child support office handling your case. The request must include:

  • An Income and Expense Affidavit
  • A clear explanation of the reason for the change

After the review, your child support order may increase, decrease, or remain the same. The review process can take up to six months.
